Story
One of my friends is a self-proclaimed airhead. While he is a genius in some areas, he often misses the boat in other common sense areas. Well one day, my airhead friend, said something that was so insightful that it took me back for a second. I was complaining about how much work I had to get done and how I wished there were more hours in the day. Then my friend said, How can you expect to get better at getting things done when everyday of your life is different. You will get better at managing your day if you make every day the same. Out of the mouth of babes!
My friend told me that he started trying to make his todays the same as his yesterdays. During the pursuit of these repeat performances, he managed to give up smoking, remodel his house, and get back into shape. Hmmmhe might have something here.
Advice
If you make every day the same, as much as possible, then you will get better. After all, it worked for Bill Murrays character in the movie Groundhog Day. That guy kept living the same day over and over again until he got it right. Boy, did he get it right on that last day!
Steps
1. Identify things you can do in the morning that will have an impact on your day.
2. Identify things you can do at night, before you go to bed, to help summarize or cap off your daily experiences.
3. From your list, develop a morning and nighttime ritual. It must be comprise of things which can be consistently done daily. Drive is what you do in spite of the type of day you are having. Each routine should take no longer than 15 minutes.
4. Extend your ritual by 15 minutes every week. Eventually you will gain more control over how you spend your entire day.
