Money cant buy you happiness, but it can prevent pain

Saturday, September 01, 2007 Filed Under Financial - Career

Story

I remember the last time my car was towed. It was in 2000 and I was partying with my friends in downtown Richmond, VA. My car had been towed before downtown. One time I couldnt afford to get my car out and it stayed impounded for 3 days until I could get the money. However, the last time my car was towed was unlike previous times. I had money now. I walked up to the tow truck guy and told him that was my car. He told me how much it would cost to get it. Not only did I pay the guy the money, but I even gave him a tip. Im not sure who was more shockedhim or my friends.

In the past the tow truck guys had always been towering powers of authority that would push me around and wielded their control over me. I made up in my mind that not only would I take back control, but I would take that opportunity to spread some happiness.  Call me crazy, but I felt great afterwards. Much better than I did the last time my car was towed. It may be true that money cant buy you happiness. But, it sure goes a long way at preventing discomfort.

Advice

Money cant buy you happiness, but it can prevent pain. Some people believe that money is evil. Others claim to not want to be rich. Well, if people make that claim then I believe they will lie about other things as well.  J We need to change our attitude to see that money is no more evil than food. Food keeps us alive and healthy as long as we deal with it in moderation. We must treat money in the same manner.

If you want more money then you need to understand the laws of money. Wealth is governed by particular laws. One law states that you should use money as a shield and not a sword. Use money to protect you from your attackers. On that day, my attacker was the tow truck guy. And, money served as my shield against him. But, it was the kindness that I showed back to him that was my sword. This thought process served to relieve my stress levels, increase my happiness, and affect my wealth.

Steps

1.       Identify your weapons when confronted with an uncomfortable problem.

2.       Pick out your options on how you can use money to soften the pain.

3.       Initiate some act of kindness in the direction of your attacker or the specific problem.
